Kateryna Bondar

A documentary photographer. Since 2022 she has been photographing Gdańsk as seen by people who first encountered it as adults. She works only on film, in natural light.

About the Work & Technique

Kateryna came to Gdańsk from Kharkiv and took no photographs at all for the first year. She says she had to stop seeing the city as a railway station first.

Her series „Gdańsk from the other side” took two years and consists entirely of places that never make it onto postcards: bus stops, stairwells, queues at service windows. She shot it on her mother’s camera, the only thing she brought besides her documents.

The series can be seen at Mozaika from the end of October. Kateryna also runs occasional photography walks around Oliwa — no equipment required, no skill levels, a phone in your hand is enough.
